Early Detection

It is incredibly important to bring your pets in for regular checkups and screenings. These visits allow us to detect internal health issues early, which allows for more effective—and less invasive treatments. This also helps us create a health baseline for your pets. We can refer back to this baseline at future visits to spot anything that seems amiss.

Comprehensive Blood Work

We perform a complete blood count, chemistry panel, and urinalysis to build a detailed picture of your pet’s health. With these tests, we can see a variety of conditions, including:

  • Infections
  • Anemia
  • Kidney disease
  • Liver function
  • Abnormalities
  • And more

Senior Health Screenings

Senior pets need a little extra veterinary attention to ensure they are still living their best lives. For our senior patients, we also perform a thyroid hormone test (T4) to screen for thyroid disorders. These tend to be common in older pets, and can negatively impact their quality of life if not caught early.

We also do routine screening for older cats that includes Pro-BNP testing, which can identify signs of heart disease early and give us plenty of time to intervene with treatment and management. This can help maintain your cat’s heart health and overall well-being.

Fear Free Practices

At PetSmart Veterinary Services - Alpharetta, we believe in using adhering to Fear Free practices, specifically during wellness visits. These involve a series of techniques and strategies aimed at reducing fear, anxiety, and stress in pets during veterinary visits like giving treats, positive reinforcement, calming medication, and pheromone sprays. These practices are based on understanding animal behavior and using methods that promote a sense of safety and comfort for your pet. We also offer medications to help with more advanced levels of anxiety to help provide your pet with a better experience.

Monthly Preventives

Monthly Preventives

Flea, tick, and heartworm prevention is essential for protecting your pet from discomfort, skin irritations, and serious diseases like Lyme disease, Ehrlichiosis, and heartworm disease. These preventives ensure your pet’s long-term health by avoiding infestations and infections that can lead to costly treatments and severe health issues. By maintaining regular preventive care, you keep your pet comfortable, healthy, and happy, while also enjoying the convenience and cost-effectiveness of these measures.

Fecal Exams

We can learn a lot about a pet’s health from a fecal exam. In fact, these exams can detect common intestinal parasites like roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and tapeworms. Early detection allows for timely treatment before these parasites can cause serious health issues.

Many parasites are zoonotic, meaning they can be transmitted from pets to humans. Regular fecal exams help prevent the spread of parasites to family members and other pets.
